Bradwell Site is a confirmed winner of one of the prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards this year. The site has received the RoSPA gold award for eight consecutive years which qualifies the site to receive its 4th Gold Medal for sustained achievement.
John Youds, Industrial Safety Engineer said; “Bradwell is very proud to receive the award as it demonstrates the commitment of the whole workforce. Health and safety is an integral part of how we operate on site and decommission at Bradwell”.
The site was judged alongside other industries in the Engineering Construction category, including other Magnox sites. This achievement is particularly rewarding as the environment is continuing to change on site; moving further into a stage of decommissioning following years of generation and defuelling. During this time the site has been able to demonstrate that it continues to treat health, safety and the environment as a priority. Nigel Addy, Quality Assurance Engineer said; “This has been made possible by the good working relationships that management, staff and sub-contractors have on site which contribute to the strong safety standards”.
David Rawlins, RoSPA award manager said; “Magnox Electric Ltd Bradwell Site has shown a commitment to protecting the health and well-being of its employees and others. We hope other businesses and organisations will follow its lead and strive for continuous improvement in health and safety management.”
The Site was pleased to formally receive the medal at the award ceremony on 14 May at the Hilton Birmingham where it was presented to the Site’s Safety Management team and Safety Representatives.
Magnox Electric as a company also received the RoSPA Engineering Construction Award for the second year running, recognising performance across the ten Magnox Reactor sites in the UK.
